Spratts Patent Improved July 18th 54 Wells & Provost Proprietors, N.Y.

Two early tin cans used for canning. These were unusual in that they used lead for the lids. We now know how harmful lead is to us, so was a mistake to use for the lids. The use of tin cans is where the term "canning" originated from.
